Bathroom Scenario's History
Before there was Bathroom Scenario there was a singing group called "De Neobrallers". All students of this group were members of student society Cleopatra A.S.G. Every wednesday night they came together in Café de Smederij and they sang mostly Close Harmony, Babershop, Negro Spirituals and a capella popsongs. This worked so well that after two years the students decided to take a step up the professional ladder. A conductor named Douwe Ettema was found and they decided to rename the choir to Bathroom Scenario, after a song by Fisher Z.
When in 1990 the Café became unavailable the choir decided to move operations to the Usva. The same year the first repetition weekend was held in which all the songs were rehearsed (a lot) but there was time for other fun too. Bathroom was going really strong those years. So many people wanted to join that some had to be turned down. Luckily the most enthousiastic people could always join.
In 1994 the first choir contest ('korenconcours') was held. People liked it so much that even now the contest is held annually. When Cleopatra got their own building Bathroom could use it for rehearsals for a while.
Late 1998 the choir had to move again. This time to the art center on the Oliemuldersweg.
Finally in 2000 Bathroom moves to its current location: buurtcentrum Oranjewijk. Here the idea is born to make a musical around the songs. Throughout the years lots of musicals were made with exotic titles like "How God vanished from Penny Lane", "Good and bad times at the AZC (asylum center)" and this year "Koi, Lobster, and the art of knowing character." (all titles translated for your convenience). Since those days lots of things didn't change. Our conductor is still Douwe Ettema, we still organize an annual choir contest and musical but most of all we still like to sing together but mostly we all have fun singing together every week.
