About us
Bathroom Scenario is an international a capella student choir based in Groningen, consisting of around 25 members. We sing from a wide range of different musical genres, from pop or rock, all the way to classical. We also like trying out new things and can assure you that you will never have a dull moment as our conductor.
We are an amateur choir and very open to people with all levels of experience, which is why we do not host auditions. Everyone is welcome to join us, because we encourage people to explore and discover new passions. We believe in the importance of accessible places for people who are eager to learn something new, and Bathroom Scenario is happy to provide everyone with the opportunity to sing. We are very proud to be a choir where very experienced singers and very new ones come together to make beautiful music.
We rehearse every Thursday from 17:30 until 19:30 in BuurtCentrum Oranjewijk in Groningen. Since we’re an international choir, all of our rehearsals are in English. We change our repertoire every half year. Throughout the year we have multiple performances, some organized by our choir and others potentially in collaboration with fellow (student) choirs. In summer, we usually perform a self-written musical. In addition, once a year we organize a rehearsal weekend to practice songs for upcoming performances and to encourage socialization between members.
Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic conductor to lead our choir starting on May 22, 2025. This is a freelance position.
You will guide our weekly rehearsals, prepare us for performances, conduct the choir during those performances, and help us grow as a choir. You will work with a diverse group of amateur singers.
This year, instead of a musical, Bathroom Scenario will perform a spring concert and a summer concert. Ideally, our new conductor can start directly after our spring performance and work with us on our summer concert, which will be on July 5. After a summer break, the choir starts rehearsing again in the first week of September.
Qualities we look for in a conductor:
- Experience in choral conducting;
- Experience leading vocal warm-up;
- Knowledge about vocal technique;
- Experience playing piano (for during rehearsals only);
- Comfortable leading rehearsals in English;
- Should be able to deal with frequent member changes;
- Comfortable working with amateur singers (including people who have never sung before);
- Able to establish a positive learning environment during rehearsals.

- Salary:
- This is a freelance position. Salary per rehearsal based on background and experience;
- Travel reimbursement of €0,23 per kilometer (for up to 20 kilometers for distance between home and rehearsal location);
- A fixed rate for each performance.
