Conductor

Jeroen Zijlstra

Jeroen Zijlstra (1976) worked as a teacher of mathematics before committing himself to a musical carreer. In 2012 he got his bachelor diploma in choir conducting at the Prins Claus Conservatorium. He became conductor of two very diverse choirs with very diverse genres and fell in love with working with children and youth. At the moment, he is the conductor of Bathroom Scenario, the climate choir north and a nameless choir, consisting of parents of the vrijeschool Widar. In addition, he is often asked to fill in for other conductors. Jeroen also zings himself – in the chamber choir Dualis.

Jeroen is a musical connector who doesn’t shy away from experimenting and who likes to challenge singers to draw out their best performance. He is a versatile musician: next to conducting and singing he also occupies himself with arranging and (here and there also) composing musical pieces and he is a master of the Dutch bamboe flute guild.

Jeroen also has projects outside of music: A few days per week he works as substitute teacher at various BSO-locations of the SKSG. In addition, he is also active as a writer. In 2024 he published his third book a historical novel called Rembrandts Dromen (Rembrand’s Dreams). At the moment, he is working on his fourth book.

Jeroen is married, has three daughters and lives in Beijum.
